Rize
Ayder Plateau is a summer settlement in the Çamlıhemşin district of Rize, on the north side of the Kaçkar Mountains. It lies at about 1,350 m, less than 20 km south-east of Çamlıhemşin town. Rize city is about 88 km away. The government declared Ayder a tourism centre in 1987.
The plateau has a thermal spring. The Gelintülü Waterfall nearby takes its name from its bridal-veil look. Ayder is the usual starting point for climbs into the Kaçkar Mountains from the north. Trout is farmed in the valley between Ayder and Çamlıhemşin.
Accommodation ranges from bungalows and traditional plateau houses to family pensions and hotels. The plateau also has a health clinic, a post office and shops. The climate is rainy, with cool summers and cold, snowy winters. Pack a rain jacket and firm shoes in every season.
