Amasra

Amasra is a small port town and district centre in Bartın province, on the western Black Sea coast of Türkiye. The old town stands on a cape between two sheltered bays: Büyük Liman to the east and Küçük Liman to the west.

Amasra Castle has two main parts. The Boztepe section on the island, also called Sormagir Castle, dates from the Roman period. The Zindan section lies on the town side. The Genoese used the castle heavily and carried out major repairs in the 14th and 15th centuries. The Kemere Bridge, a single stone arch, crosses the narrow channel to Boztepe. Fatih Mosque was built as a church in the 9th century and became a mosque after the Ottoman conquest in 1460. The town museum, first opened in 1955, shows archaeological finds.

Amasra is less than 20 km north of Bartın, and dolmuş minibuses run between the two. Check the museum's current opening hours before you go.
