Saklıkent Gorge

Saklıkent Gorge

Saklıkent Gorge lies in Saklıkent National Park, in the Seydikemer district of Muğla. The Karaçay stream cut it into limestone. The stream feeds the Eşen River, which marks the border between Muğla and Antalya provinces. The gorge is about 18 km long. The national park was declared on 6 June 1996, and local accounts say a shepherd found the canyon.

The visit starts on a wooden walkway fixed to the rock wall above the fast-flowing water. Beyond it, visitors walk and wade along the stream bed between high cliffs. About 4 km of the gorge can be walked after the April snowmelt. The water is cold even in summer. Rafting is offered on the river nearby.

The entrance is next to the village of Kayadibi, about 50 km from Fethiye, and dolmuş minibuses run from Fethiye. In winter the river rises and the gorge cannot be crossed. Wear shoes that can get wet and expect uneven, stony ground.
