Antalya
Kaş is a small harbour town in the far west of Antalya province. It stands on the site of ancient Antiphellos, which was founded as the harbour of nearby Phellos. Mountains rise straight from the sea behind the town, and the Greek island of Meis (Kastellorizo) lies offshore.
The ancient theatre is on the western edge of town and faces the sea. It has 26 rows of seats for about 4,000 spectators and no stage building. On Uzun Çarşı Caddesi stands the King's Tomb, a Lycian sarcophagus from the 4th century BC with lion heads on its lid. Its eight-line Lycian inscription has not been deciphered. Rock-cut tombs line the slope above the town.
Boats leave the harbour for the sunken ruins at Kekova. Ferries also cross to Meis, a trip abroad that needs a passport. Kaş is one of Türkiye's main diving centres. The nearest airports are Antalya and Dalaman. Several streets climb uphill from the harbour.
