Lake Salda

Lake Salda

Lake Salda is a crater lake in the Yeşilova district of Burdur province. Yeşilova town lies about 4 km east of the shore. The lake is nearly 200 m deep, one of the deepest in Türkiye. Its white beaches are made of hydromagnesite, a carbonate mineral.

The lake and its shores have been protected since 1989 and became a Special Environmental Protection Area in 2019. Since October 2020, entering the water and using the beach are banned in the Beyaz Adalar (White Islands) section. Swimming is allowed at the public beach. NASA scientists have compared the shore deposits with those of Jezero Crater on Mars.

Camping is not allowed directly around the lake. Tents and caravans can stay at the Yeşilova and Doğanbaba public beaches. Bicycles can be rented at Yeşilova Public Beach for a ride along the shore. About 38 bird species have been recorded here. Swimming rules have changed in recent years, so check them on site.
